Zhe Zhang, a researcher in the Laboratory of Wave Engineering in the School of Engineering, has received a prestigious fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) to pursue postdoctoral studies at Stanford University in the USA.
Postdoc.Mobility fellowships are for early-career postdoctoral researchers who wish to enhance their scientific profile by working at a research institution abroad, to acquire more in-depth knowledge in view of a future career in Switzerland. The funding period is a 24-month fellowship with the possibility of a return phase of up to 12 months.
Zhe Zhang successfully defended his PhD thesis, Topological photonic transport in disordered scattering networks, in 2024 under the supervision of Laboratory of Wave Engineering head Romain Fleury.
He will use his SNSF fellowship at Stanford University to explore and construct new frameworks of robust photonic platforms based on Floquet topology, which involve periodic temporal modulations. These platforms will simultaneously manipulate waves in both spatial and spectral dimensions, significantly advancing photonic applications through topological physics.
