Scientific research documents repositories have multiplied in recent years. Universities and research organizations are gradually opening their own institutional repository in order to collect and share the work of their researchers. Today we see the emergence of “borderless” sharing and work spaces. A recent example is Zenodo.

A European and multidisciplinary sharing space

"Newly launched in May 2013, Zenodo, a collaboration between CERN and OpenAIRE and supported by the European Commission, is an open access European scientific data repository." This new generation online archive allows researchers, scientists, working groups and institutions to share the results of multidisciplinary research, datasets, publications, videos, as well as presentations, in national and European contexts.

Easy access to research results

Making research data available is a growing issue. This primary information is used as a main source for scientific research. It is recognized by the scientific community as necessary to validate research results and for the reproducibility of the results by other laboratories as well as for the progress of research.
Zenodo offers an innovative way for authors to publish their data through simple and fast download means, specially designed for researchers in a hurry.
Researchers and institutions can create simple-to-moderate virtual spaces in which they have the opportunity to submit research data.

A web 2.0 way of sharing

The conditions proposed by Zenodo encourage the free disposal of the stored data, but researchers still have the possibility to restrict access to this data. Zenodo accepts documents in all areas of science, and all file formats.Zenodo invites researchers worldwide to submit and share their research results by providing a centralized, secure and easy-to-use system. "The documents will be stored in the CERN data centres [...] which have an extremely reliable protection system.”

Zenodo offers the following basic functionalities:
• 1 GB of available space;
• A searchable database;
• Automatic assignment of a DOI to different digital objects. The Zenodo platform enables researchers to upload their data in sets and a DOI is assigned to each set;
• Simple upload of documents through its integration with Dropbox;
• A rich interface for linking objects together (eg funding information).
