Clarivate Analytics is offering combined access to two databases, Journal Citation Reports (JCR) and Essential Science Indicators (ESI). These analysis and benchmarking tools use the data available from Web of Science (WoS).

EPFL Library offers online access to JCR and ESI, previously marketed by Thomson Reuters. The license agreement between EPFL and Clarivate Analytics has been renewed annually since 2006 and negotiated in partnership with the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries.

Journal Citation Reports (JCR)

Journal Citation Reports provides data related to the citation rate of over 12'000 scientific and technical journals and conference proceedings. Since 2001, it has compiled citations from a selection of WoS journals, covering more than 230 disciplines in life sciences, biomedical sciences, engineering, materials science, computer science, social sciences and many others.

JCR allows you:

  • As researcher, to identify the best-fit journals to your field to publish your articles in
  • To identify the most cited titles and compare several journals based on performance metrics
  • To get an overview of your articles’ contribution in a specific journal
  • To support strategic decision-making

Essential Science Indicators (ESI)

Like JCR, Essential Science Indicators database uses WoS to extract performance statistics and trend indicators. ESI collects these statistics in more than 12 million articles over the last 10 years.

ESI allows you:

  • To identify emerging scientific trends by research area
  • To conduct various literature and scientific performance analyses
  • To identify "Top researchers" or "Top institutions" by research field
  • To get a ranking by discipline of "Top papers"
