Young architects in Western Switzerland

The last edition of the journal werk bauen + wohnen is dedicated to upcoming architects in Switzerland. In this frame, among the associates of eight selected firms for Western Switzerland appeared notably Loïc Fumeaux (xy-ar.ch) and Cyril Lecoultre (bunq), both assistants at the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST).
After accomplishing their studies in the various training options offered in architecture in Switzerland, most of the selected young architects selected in this edition of werk bauen + wohnen started off their careers by working during a certain number of years in well-established architect firms in Switzerland and abroad before starting off their own independent practice.
The increasing requirements of the architectural discipline, but also the open-mindedness of this new generation, has brought them to follow continuing education, by being engaged in several activities in parallel or by diverse academic involvements in teaching and research. "Theory and teaching nourishing practice and vice-versa" underlines Marielle Savoyat in her introductory paper.
Among the associates of the eight firms presented, one can find a number of assistants working at the Institute of Architecture and the City (IA) : Yves Dreier, Laboratory of Urban Architecture (LAURE), Frédéric Frank, Theory and History of Architecture Laboratory 2 (LTH 2) as well as Loïc Fumeaux and Cyril Lecoultre from the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST).
