The ForumEPFL is the biggest recruitment platform in Switzerland. Its goal is to help graduate students achieve a good entry position into their professional careers. The event itself is the occasion to assist to company presentations, participate in workshops and interviews, and meet company representatives directly on their stands during the career fair. Graduate studies and research in photonics are very strong at EPFL. That is why, for the 2015 edition of the ForumEPFL, SwissPhotonics and the EPFL Photonics Chapter (EPC) decided to organize together a workshop dedicated to photonics.
Swissphotonics is the Swiss national thematic network (NTN) for photonics. It is the declared goal of Swissphotonics to improve the competitiveness of its members by supporting the innovation forces. EPC is the EPFL student organization gathering all the photonics enthusiasts on campus and promoting optical science and technology. Its mission is to provide exciting networking, educational and outreach activities for the EPFL community.
The workshop is a privileged networking event for students and for recruiters. It is dedicated to enable companies related to the photonics world to meet highly qualified engineers from EPFL and ETHZ, who have the will to discover and/or enter this world. The event is open to all graduates and PhDs who would like to know better photonics industry actors in Switzerland. To have a more efficient workshop subscriptions are limited to 50 students.
The event will be divided in four parts. First, Swissphotonics will give an overview of the photonics job landscape in Switzerland. The new generation of talented engineers should be aware of the reality of the photonics industry. Second, companies will have the opportunity to present their activities to all the students enrolled to the workshop. Speakers of each represented company will provide insights to the students about their experience, background, and more. Then, 'case studies' in small groups mixing students and industry partners will be proposed to get to exchange on specific skills/problems. Finally, time will be given to companies and students to interact over snacks. On the side, interviews of students will be organized depending on the request of companies, which will have access to all the curriculum vitae of subscribed students before the workshop.
