Lisa Dupré, Legal Director Fresenius Kabi SwissBioSim GmbH, is currently participating in the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Biotech, Medtech and Pharma Ventures and she has shared about her career path and her experience in this program so far.

  • In a few words, what brought you to enroll in the CAS in Biotech, Medtech & Pharma Ventures?

I’m motivated to make a difference to the quality of life of patients and passionate about accessible healthcare. Having worked at various law firms and as in-house counsel across the energy, financial and sustainability sectors, I was fortunate to join Fresenius Kabi SwissBioSim in 2019 as Legal Director for the Biosimilars Business Unit, driving the research, development and commercialization of affordable treatments.

Being a late-comer to the pharmaceutical industry, I was eager to ground my practical experience in stronger, more structured foundations. The EPFL CAS in Biotech, Medtech & Pharma Ventures seemed like a great way to delve further into our complex business and to gain valuable insights into strategic development & commercialization processes.

  • How do you believe the CAS will help you in your career?

The CAS program was dynamic and diverse; covering a range of relevant subjects directly relating to my legal function. The program has helped me develop deeper knowledge and strategic skills which will enable me to even better support the business.

Working closely with a lot of different personalities and managers from various business technology, engineering, scientific and consulting backgrounds has also helped me understand how to best utilize peoples’ skill-sets and to focus on developing innovative solutions to complex problems.

  • How has your experience at the CAS been going so far?

Starting the CAS after a long period of (COVID-19) isolation was somewhat of a daunting process, but also a great segway back into socialization. Coming to EPFL regularly and meeting so many bright, open and enthusiastic peers, engaging with the academics and industry leaders, and learning alongside people who quickly became new friends has been an amazing experience. Each element of the CAS has, in different ways, been revitalizing, collaborative and empowering; as challenging as it was rewarding and fun.

  • How is the general atmosphere in this program (with the teachers and your classmates)?

The atmosphere of the program was invigorating. Each new day brought with it closer connections, deeper learning and vibrant discussions. It was a dynamic place of learning - from the professors, industry professionals and each other.

  • A few words about yourself: what do you do in your spare time?

I spend a lot of my free time with family, meeting old and new friends, dragging my adorable kids on hikes in the countryside, visiting the local vineyards and searching for the best sushi in Switzerland.
