Wellcome Trust call for proposals on the impact of Vaccines on AMR

The UK-based charity, Wellcome Trust, launches a one-off research grant to support researchers investigating the impact of vaccines on antibiotic use and/or antimicrobial resistance. The aim is to support and inform vaccine decision-makers around the world and tackle antimicrobial resistance.

Applicants can choose to either analyse existing AMR data related to vaccine use or collect and analyse new AMR data from an ongoing or planned vaccine study. Types of AMR data that you may want to analyse include (but are not limited to): antibiotic use, drug-resistant infections, antibiotic prescribing behavior, antibiotic seeking behavior, health and economic costs. You can propose to work on vaccines that are marketed or in development. The vaccines should target pathogens that are becoming more difficult to treat with antibiotics and/or cause symptoms that drive antibiotic use.

The call is open to individuals or teams of up to 7 people from anywhere in the world. Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent and have significant postdoctoral experience. You can be based at an academic research organization, a not-for-profit or overnment body, and/or a private sector organisation. Teams may be based in the same or different organisations. You must have a permanent, open-ended or long-term rolling contract, or the guarantee of one, and produce an institutional support letter. You can apply for either Small awards of up to £250,000 or Large awards of up to £750,000. Eligible costs are personnel (excluding the applicants’ salaries), consumables, small equipment that are essential for this project, access charges to shared equipment and facilities, travel and subsistence, open access charges and other project-related costs. Does not cover overheads and large equipment. The duration of the grant is flexible, depending on the level of funding.
