Welcoming Johannes Spies to Lab COSMO!

Johannes comes to us with a strong background in computer science, having completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the Technical University of Munich. He is especially interested in the space where machine learning meets the natural sciences. His current focus is on speeding up materials discovery using new ML techniques. Before joining us, he worked on a wide range of scientific problems, from bioinformatics to quantum chemistry, including research on potential energy surfaces in molecular systems.

At COSMO, Johannes will be diving into the application side of our scientific software tools, aiming to push the boundaries of how we use machine learning in materials research. We’re thrilled to have him on board!
