The Doctoral Program in Management of Technology (EDMT) is pleased to welcome six new PhD students who officially joined the program on September 15, 2024.

During the welcome event held on October 30, 2024, Prof. Thomas Weber, director of the EDMT doctoral program, warmly greeted the cohort of incoming PhD students, who were eager to begin their academic journey, sharing some fundamental principles, inspired by Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics, to guide them during their studies.

Subsequently, all but one of the newly arrived doctoral students presented themselves:

  • Jeanne Fernandez, joining the team of Prof. Michaël Aklin (PASU)
  • Angelina Frolova, joining the team of Prof. Marc Gruber (ENTC)
  • Andrea Ruglioni, joining the team of Prof. Damir Filipovic (SFI)
  • Jiechen Zhang, joining the team of Prof. Andrés Cristi (GO)
  • Franziska Zollner, joining the team of Prof. Michaël Aklin (PASU)
  • Maxime Bataillard, joining the team of Prof. Michaël Aklin (PASU) (*)

Dr. Eduardo Schindler then presented the Kilian Schindler Excellence Award, created in memory and honor of his son (Dr. Kilian Schindler), an academically outstanding EDMT alum advised by Prof. Daniel Kuhn, who sadly passed away in May 2020. The recipient of this year’s edition of this prize was Dr. Bahar Taskesen, who graduated this past summer. As usual for recipients of this academic honor, Dr. Taskesen provided the audience with a broad overview of her thesis, on “Reliable Data-Driven Decision-Making through Optimal Transport,” written under the supervision of Prof. Daniel Kuhn (RAO). Earlier recipients of the Kilian Schindler Excellence Award include Dr. Cagil Kocyigit (2020), Dr. Rachel Lacroix (2021), and Dr. Michael Mark (2022), all EDMT graduates. The prize was not given in 2023.

The second academic honor of the evening, namely the EDMT Thesis Distinction was awarded to Mr. Jun Han, currently PhD student with Prof. Thomas Weber (OES), for his outstanding dissertation on “Robust Optimization for Product Line Design” that he defended in September of this year in front of his thesis committee.

The 2024 EDMT Welcome Event concluded with a reception and small buffet, where students and faculty had the chance to exchange ideas and get to know each other.
