A new and school-sanctioned student club for PhD students – called PolyDoc – opened its doors this October.

The idea for PolyDoc came from Sarah van Rooij, now the club’s president, who wanted to create a community of PhD students within EPFL spanning all disciplines. The club will welcome new PhD students to EPFL and help them get settled into life at the school. It will also reach out to students at EPFL’s outposts.

The club aims to provide a forum for coordinating the efforts of PhD student representatives and serve as an interface between these representatives, the broader doctoral community and the various organizations that help PhD students juggle the demands of their studies and research. It will relay important information that PhD students need to know for their degree programs.

The club will include various committees, each tasked with managing a specific project such as creating a mentoring network for new students, holding “Scientific Writing Group” workshops to help students write effective publications, organizing social events like barbecues and networking cocktails and arranging other events specially designed for PhD Corner students.
