We are thrilled to welcome Alessandro Forina and Markus Fasching to lab COSMO as PhD students!

Alessandro is a Theoretical Physicist with both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the Department of Physics at Sapienza University of Rome. Specializing in statistical mechanics and out-of-equilibrium phenomena, he has also explored Soft Matter, conducting research on liquid crystals using Monte Carlo simulations. As part of the lab, Alessandro will delve into computational nanofluidics, developing a Machine Learning Potential to accurately capture long-range interactions.

Markus joins us with a background in Interdisciplinary Sciences from ETH Zürich, where he focused on biophysics and theoretical chemistry. During his MSc, he gained hands-on experience in quantum chemistry and path integral molecular dynamics. In his PhD, Markus will focus on developing advanced machine learning models for biological system applications.

We’re excited about the expertise and fresh perspectives Alessandro and Markus bring to the lab, and we wish them a fruitful and rewarding PhD journey!
