Karim-Alexandre Essaïed started his PhD thesis at the LTQE lab under the supervision of Urs von Gunten!
In 2016, he already did his Master Project at the LTQE. He participated in the development of a new fluorometric method to detect the carcinogenic N-nitrosamines compounds in water samples. For this thesis he received two academic prizes, awarding the quality and the relevance of his work.
During his PhD, he will investigate the reactions of ozone with nitrogen-containing moieties in the dissolved organic matter in order to understand the potential formation of toxic oxidation by-products (e.g. the N-nitrosamines) during ozonation process.
