The EPFL web services get a new application to share articles and pages on social media.

A new "social widget”

From the beginning of the year, all EPFL web pages, as well as all news and events announcements have four new round icons just underneath the horizontal menu at the top of each page.

This new web app - or "social widget" - has been specifically developped for the EPFL. It allows anyone to share on certain social media (where EPFL is represented): pages from Jahia websites, articles from News, events announcements from Memento, as well as people profiles from the EPFL online directory.

Solving a confidentiality issue

This new widget replaces the one previously in place - developped by the US company "AddThis" - which was problematic due to its lack of clear confidentiality policy. The former application indeed collects data and keeps track of all pages shared. All sort of uncertainties regarding data protection led the EPFL web services to come with a new application much safer and locally developped.

"Print" icon removed

At the same time, the "print" icon has been removed from all EPFL web pages, news and event announcements. The reason was that this function was redundant with a similar one available on every browsers and did not bring any specific or different page layout.
