URBES lidar goes live

The doppler lidar installed at EPFL has been integrated into the EUMETNET E-Profile programme which collects, processes and disseminates vertical profiles of atmospheric properties.
Vertical profile observations of the atmosphere are crucial in meteorology as they provide key information on the atmospheric structure and composition at different altitudes. These vertical data are incorporated into numerical weather prediction models to improve their accuracy - thus enhancing public safety and supporting numerous sectors that rely on precise weather information.
The doppler lidar installed and run by URBES at EPFL collects such vertical profiles data and is now part of the EUMETNET E-Profile programme - a collaborative network comprising 33 European National Meteorological Services.
URBES data are shared in near-real time and can be visualized on the E-profile website: https://e-profile.eu
