Tribute to Honorary Professor Leopold Pflug

Leopold Pflug was Professor of Mechanics and Statics in Civil Engineering from 1970 to 2000. He passed away on 30 January 2025.

Leopold Pflug was born in Geneva in 1935. He graduated in civil engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) in 1959. He then worked for a few years in Geneva, before joining the Ecole polytechnique de Lausanne (EPFL) to complete a doctorate under the supervision of Professor Jean-Claude Badoux, an EPFL former President. He was appointed Professor of Mechanics and Statics in 1970.

Leopold Pflug has always been interested in the EPFL community. He headed thus the Civil Engineering Department and was President of the school's Professors' Association. He retired in 2000, after 30 years as a professor.

He was also Vice-President of the Bois-Chamblard Foundation until 2012. The Foundation supports fundamental and applied research linked to the preservation of the biosphere and its resources.

The funeral will be held on 10 February in Lavigny, in the canton of Vaud.
