Thomas will examine presence hallucinations in Lewy Body Dementia to better understand their cognitive and neural mechanisms.
Thomas has been awarded the Fulbright Research Award in conjunction with the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship to conduct research in our lab. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, with degrees in Mathematics and Neuroscience and is preparing for a career as a physician-scientist.
At UT Austin, Thomas conducted research at the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Umberto Villa, where he developed physics-based and computer vision methods to advance photoacoustic computed tomography. He also worked in the Department of Biomedical Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Huiliang Wang, performing focused ultrasound neuromodulation experiments targeting Parkinson’s disease and chronic pain. Continuing his research interests in neurodegeneration, he is now investigating presence hallucinations in patients with Lewy Body Dementia and contributing to analyses of brain–breathing interactions. The goal of these projects is to improve detection of early-stage neurodegeneration and enable earlier clinical intervention.
Welcome to the lab Thomas!
