The STREEM lab welcomes new member to the team

We are happy to welcome a new PhD student to the STREEM team, Walter Yana de la Riva, who has joined us beginning of August 2026.
Walter holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from Universidad Católica de Santa María in Peru and a MSc in Water and Sustainable Development from IHE Delft, where he studied sediment connectivity and reservoir sedimentation. Before joining EPFL, he spent six years in engineering consulting, contributing to large infrastructure and mining projects from feasibility to detailed design and EPC. His doctoral research explores sediment connectivity and sedimentation processes at hydropower dams, aiming to improve the sediment management in regulated river systems. His academic interests include hydrology, hydrogeomorphology, sediment dynamics, and dam engineering.
