Congratulations to Adrian Gheata and Alessandra Spada for their paper in Nanomaterials. If you want to learn more about a novel surface coating route for metal oxide nanoparticles, using water-in-oil microemulsion technology, have a look at: https://www.mdpi.com/2079-4991/13/3/522.

Using nanodroplets of aqueous ammonia into heptane, with Span 20 as surfactant, lithium niobate nanoparticles were efficiently silanized to introduce surface reactive moieties such as azido groups and carboxylates. Subsequent post-functionalization strategies allowed conjugation to a non-natural azido-containing small peptide to maximize the density of available surface reactive moieties and reduce protein adsorption.

We are grateful to the group of Dr Yannick Mugnier at SYMME-Université Savoie Mont Blanc for providing us with bare harmonic nanoparticles for coating and post-functionalization developments.
