Laboratory of Integrated Comfort Engineering (ICE) participated in the ENAC School's 20th Anniversary celebration by displaying their research works as part of the theme "Healthy Building & Urban Environments"

On September 2, 2022, The School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC) of EPFL celebrated 20th anniversary at EPFL’s SwissTech Convention Center. More than 700 students, researchers, faculty members, and visitors participated in this full-day event, including the exhibition, lectures, and roundtable discussions. Over 90 ENAC laboratories and research groups displayed their research works and showcased physical devices such as robots, models, and virtual reality technology. At the same time, invited experts presented lectures on the stage on climate change, digitalization of cities, and urbanization, which are the sustainability-related challenges for the built and natural environment. Each of the talks was followed by a roundtable discussion with ENAC researchers engaging the general public.

During the opening speech of ENAC Dean Claudia Binder, she illustrated the topic of designing healthier buildings and cites using a scene recorded using an infrared camera recorded by the ICE lab during an experiment in its climatic chamber in Fribourg.

ICE lab was part of the thematic group of Transforming Landscape & City Territory in the Healthy Building & Urban Environments section, and it showcased its past and recent research works via posters, videos, and onsite commentary by the ICE members Mohamad Rida and Ryan Liao. During the exhibition, experts, researchers, and students from various fields approached the stand of the lab to learn more about human thermal comfort and the paths to reach energy sufficiency in the built environment. ICE members were also fortunate to have the opportunity to discuss research applications and future development trends with industry professionals.

Through this event, ICE members also spent time exploring the innovative work done by the ENAC colleagues in the immersive exhibition toward the future. Advanced research techniques in architecture, environmental and civil engineering were displayed through various models, software, and equipment. The exhibition lasted a full day, and the anniversary celebration concluded with faculty members cutting a giant cake and a cocktail reception.
