The GIS replaces its CNC 5-axis wood-cutting machine with a new model
Thanks to funding from EPFL, the GIS Platform was able to replace its 5-axis CNC wood-cutting machine with a new model, the MAKA BC 170, which was custom-manufactured and installed in room GC H0 612.
Contrarily to the previous machine in which the sample was mobile, in this new model, the gantry moves, thus making the machining/cutting of larger panels possible. The maximum machining surface is now 5 meters by 2 meters and the maximum height, 740 millimeters. In addition, a sixth axis can be added to the machine, allowing the cutting of wood in spherical form.
