EPFL Sustainable Campus is looking for volunteers to test a new type of bike-sharing: the Donkey Republic. Four self-service bicycles will be available to beta testers; the test is free, the borrowings unlimited in time. If you want to help build the first "Donkey Republic" of Switzerland, register by email to [email protected]

Donkey Republic is a Danish start-up that has been defined by the British newspaper Telegraph "The Airbnb for bicycles". Companies and privates can put bikes at disposal, so that they can be reserved and used by other cyclists through a smartphone application.

The EPFL join this new form of mobility and sharing. From 20 July, EPFL Sustainable Campus will provide users testers four bicycles (2x BI Building, 2x Pavilion). The testers will be able to cycle for free while helping to develop the first Donkey Republic hub in Switzerland! People interested in this initiativean register by e-mail to [email protected]

How it works?

Donkey Republic bikes are equipped with a lock-releasing through a smartphone application. Beta testers can reserve and use one of four bikes at their disposal; the reservation is free and unlimited. The only requirement is to bring back the bike to the starting point. An evaluation of the system and a study for the possible deployment on the entire campus will be conducted late August.
