On November 26, 2024, the Archives de la construction moderne (Acm) participated in the 1st Audiovisual Heritage Congress and Market in Solothurn, organized by Memoriav, the Swiss association for the preservation of audiovisual memory. This event brought together Swiss experts to discuss the challenges related to the preservation of audiovisual archives, both analog and digital.
The Acm presented their project to promote the Henri Germond photographic collection, documenting major Swiss construction projects, particularly federal ones, between the 1960s and 1990s. This project, showcased at the canton of Vaud's stand, aims not only to highlight the heritage value of these images but also to harness their potential as structured and reusable visual data for scientific, technical, and cultural analysis, thereby affirming the strategic value of EPFL's collections as major documentary resources.
During her visit to the stands, Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider, head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs, had the opportunity to discover this work.
The congress, a venue for exchange and reflection, emphasized transdisciplinary approaches and the importance of archives as active resources for research and innovation. Moreover, this event enhanced the visibility of EPFL's collections and strengthened their role within the Swiss cultural landscape, while opening new perspectives for national collaboration.
