In an article published in the last edition of the "Cahiers d’EspaceSuisse", Prof. Emmanuel Rey, head of the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST), presents a few thoughts on the need for synergies in urban regeneration projects. Based on the case of the new Oassis neighborhood, built on a former industrial brownfield in West Lausanne, it highlights the importance of new types of partnerships between public, private and associative actors for such initiatives.

In the context of the fight against urban sprawl, questions relating to urban regeneration occupy an essential place. Among territorial transition strategies, there is the creation of new urban neighborhood near - existing or future - stops of public transport.

From a perspective of transitions towards sustainability, this type of approach represents more than ever a challenge, not only in terms of formalization of the project but also of the management of the interaction between multiple public and private actors. The synergies experienced in the development of the Oassis neighborhood in Crissier are particularly emblematic of the need to integrate these operational issues into the dynamics of the project.

Their analysis highlights both the richness and the complexity of the partnerships that have linked private, associative and public actors in the creation of a new urban polarity. The success of such a process relies in particular on the shared capacity to maintain a situation aiming for a “golden mean” in socio-economic terms and to engage jointly in creative, cultural and cooperative processes - combining logics of continuity and iterations - as well as intermediate validations along the way.
