On Thursday 5 September, a symposium entitled "Housing for all is barrier-free & adaptable" will be held in Biel, with the participation of people affected by these issues, various players from the real estate and housing sector, and representatives of the public authorities.

Housing must be accessible to everyone - yet even today, people with disabilities have virtually no chance of finding a vacant home that can be adapted to their needs. Housing must therefore be built or renovated in such a way that it is usable and accessible by everyone, and can be adapted to individual needs if necessary. This benefits not only over 1.7 million disabled people, but also their families and friends, as well as 1.6 million elderly people. However, the number of barrier-free and adaptable homes has been stagnating for years. The supply is therefore not sufficient to achieve the objective of social participation.

Why should we do this? How can we change the situation? At the one-day symposium on 5 September 2024, we will be discussing these questions with those affected, various players in the real estate and housing sector, and representatives of the public authorities. The discussion is intended to be open and constructive, also allowing for opposing viewpoints.
