Professor Sylvie Roke, head of the Laboratory for fundamental BioPhotonics (LBP) at EPFL’s School of Engineering, and professor Aleksandra Radenovic, head of the Laboratory of Nanoscale Biology (LBEN), have been elected Fellow Member of the Optical Society (Optica) at the Society’s recent Board of Directors meeting

Sylvie Roke is being honored specifically “for pioneering contributions to the theory and practice of nonlinear light scattering and imaging technologies that enable molecular level studies of complex aqueous solutions“, and Aleksandra Radenovic is being honored “for outstanding and sustained contributions to the research and development of superresolution microscopy, including development of open-source image processing tools”.

Fellow membership in Optica (formerly OSA) is limited to no more than ten percent of the membership and is reserved for members who have served with distinction in the advancement of optics and photonics. The election process is highly competitive. Candidates are recommended by the Fellow Members Committee and then submitted for review and approval by the Optica Awards Council and Optica Board of Directors.

Founded in 1916, the society is the leading professional association in optics and photonics, home to accomplished science, engineering, and business leaders from all over the world. Through world-renowned publications, meetings, and membership programs, Optica provides quality information and inspiring interactions and dedicated resources for its extensive global network of optics and photonics experts that power achievements in the science of light.
