Catherine De Wolf and Jan Brütting (SXL) have been invited to present their research at the structural engineering firm Ney & Partners in Brussels. Catherine highlights recent developments in the quantification of embodied carbon in structures as well as potential pathways for more sustainable design. Jan introduces the engineers to his research on optimization and form finding of structures composed of reused elements. This design paradigm tries to reduce environmental impacts by prolonging the service life of materials and building components.

Ney & Partners is a team of engineers and architects working on the conception of structure and infrastructure. The firm is internationally renowned as designers of bridges and footbridges, sports infrastructure, railway and tramway stations and, more generally, all that relates to urban development.
