The event organized by the DETEC and the chair MIR of Prof. Matthias Finger, aims at bringing actors together who are working in the field of infrastructures.

Energy efficiency is the key to the future for consumers, power companies and Switzerland’s economy. Research and technical development contribute to greater efficiency and lower consumption. At the 2013 Infrastructure Day, held on November 15 in the Rolex Learning Center at EPFL, about 250 guests heard more about this topic from specialists in a range of fields.

The vice-director of the Danish Energy Agency, Dorte Nohr Andersen, presented Denmark’s market model. Alex Laskey, president of OPOWER, spoke about the ways in which power companies can increase energy efficiency. Dr. Andreas Schlatter, Group Managing Director of UBS, explained how energy infrastructures are financed. And the day was rounded off with a panel discussion between EMPA-director Prof. Gian-Luca Bona, National Councillor Jürg Grossen (GLP/BE), Urs Hany, president of the sector association Infra, Dr. Remo Lütolf, chairman of the management board of ABB Switzerland and Andreas Münch, member of the Migros management board.

Following the conference, the chairmen, some speakers and numerous guests visited the Plasma Physics Research Centre (CRPP) and learned about fusion as a sustainable energy source.

Federal Chancellor Doris Leuthard and Prof. Matthias Finger, the chairmen of the conference, are pleased with the outcomes of the day. They are looking forward to the third Infrastructure Day that will take place at the University of St. Gallen on October 24, 2014.
