Study trip to Copenhagen

This year, the studio class of Professor Emmanuel Rey went on a study trip to the Danish capital. This extra-mural teaching activity was an opportunity for the students to discover various recent urban projects and to visit many architectural realizations which come into close resonance with themes discussed at the studio.

The architectural project is expected to play an important part in the search for alternatives to reorient urban development towards increased sustainability. By an approach at different scales, LAST's studio aims precisely at analyzing, exploring and experimenting specific issues to this contribution of architecture to the sustainable city.

It is in this spirit that the study trip to Copenhagen was conceived, with the objective to allow the students to enhance their reference palette and to exercise their critical view of contemporary architectural production.

It was thus the opportunity to visit many recent realizations of mixed and public buildings in particular those achieved by Lundgaard & Tranberg, MVRDV and the Bjarke Ingels Group.

The visit of a number of urban sectors under development near public transports, as well as the conference "Copenhagen stories" presented by Jens Jakob Bierring in the name of the Planning Department of the City of Copenhagen allowed to put into perspective issues of conceptual coherence, built morphology, spatiality, typology and expression with broader themes related to qualitative densification processes which all built areas have to face.
