Students present their work at the 2024 EDMT Research Day

The Doctoral Program in Management of Technology (EDMT) honored Buse Sen for the best poster presentation at the annual EDMT Research Day. Atin Aboutorabi was recognized as runner-up.
This year’s EDMT Research Day, held on May 16, 2024 began over lunch with a warm welcome by Prof. Thomas Weber, the EDMT director.
It was then up to the EDMT students to present their research, in two interactive sessions. Each session started with a poster slam, including brief presentations with a Q&A, after which the presenters invited the audience to their respective posters for an individual in-depth discussion. This allowed for intensive feedback from faculty and peers. Each participant was asked to score all presenters across various categories. The students with the highest average score would then receive a special recognition for the best 2024 Research-day presentation.
Prof. Damir Filipovic, member of the EDMT faculty and current Director of the Swiss Finance Institute @ EPFL, delivered a keynote on “Machine Learning in Financial Engineering.”
Special thanks to Prof. Gaétan de Rassenfosse, Prof. Michaël Aklin, Prof. Daniel Kuhn and Prof. Damir Filipovic, all EDMT faculty members, for providing valuable additional feedback on the students’ research presentations, as well as to Céline Cordey, the EDMT program coordinator, and Mengmeng Li, the EDMT student representative, for an impeccable organization of the event.

Before the event concluded with an aperitif in the Vortex building, the recognition for best 2024 EDMT Research Day presentation was awarded to Buse Sen for her presentation on “Multilevel Conditional Compositional Optimization.”
The runner-up was Atin Aboutorabi with her presentation “Nowcasting R&D Expenditures: A Machine Learning Approach.”
