After a busy year of planning, recruiting, and settling in, we had the pleasure of welcoming our new team members during our first social outing as a group during a pizza night in Lausanne on November 13th.
Meet the STREEM team
Louise Cayroche — Doctoral Assistant
Louise joined the lab on September 1st as a PhD student after completing her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at EPFL. With a strong foundation in fluid mechanics, she will experimentally investigate the feasibility of placing hydrokinetic turbines in river meanders and develop a PIV setup in a curved open channel.
Clemente Gotelli — Postdoctoral Researcher
Clemente came on board in October 1st. He holds a BSc and MSc in Hydraulic Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, specialized in fluid mechanics and hydro-kinetic turbines. After earlier engineering experience and a PhD focusing on morphodynamics and sediment transport in braided rivers, he now joins STREEM as a scientist dedicated to advancing our understanding of sediment dynamics and river engineering through open-source numerical modelling.
Antonio Magherini — Doctoral Assistant
Antonio started his PhD at STREEM on November 1st. He brings a BSc in Environmental Engineering from the University of Firenze and an MSc in Civil–Hydraulic Engineering from TU Delft. His PhD research will explore a hybrid of traditional and data-driven modelling techniques to study fluvial bedforms and sediment transport — helping us better predict how rivers evolve under changing conditions.
Sophie Bauer — Administrative Assistant
Sophie has been supporting the lab since January. With a BA in Molecular Biology from UC Berkeley, she applies her coordination and organizational strengths to keep our academic operations running smoothly behind the scenes.
If you’d like to follow our journey, stay tuned for lab news, updates on our research, and invitations to upcoming events and seminars.
