Applications
Early figures show an upswing in applications for Bachelor’s programs. As of end-April, applications for these programs were up 10% relative to the prior year. And the applications are increasingly international – those from Switzerland are down 6% while those from France are up 21%. Applications from the Paris region are even up 24% (+73).
We estimate the incoming class for our BA1 program will have between 2,090 and 2,590 students, which would range from a 12% decrease to a 9% increase relative to the class that started last fall (2,370 students). Our forecast includes between 650 and 780 repeat students, between 1,370 and 1,700 new students, and around 100 students from our CMS preparatory mathematics program.

Friday Figure
Weekly tracking of matriculations started in June, with the first “Friday Figure” issued on June 24. As in prior years, we will track these figures every Friday for 20 weeks until Nov. 4, when we will come up with the final count.

Results of the 2013 student survey
The results of Switzerland’s 2013 student survey are now available in an interactive format. The Swiss Federal Statistics Office (OFS) has given us the results that relate specifically to EPFL, and we used new software called Tableau to present them in interactive charts and graphs. Staff at our Student Affairs Office can now view the data in whatever way suits them best. This initiative reflects our strategy to make data easier to use by installing modern, powerful applications. We took a similar approach for course evaluations at our Teaching Support Center and for the international indicators we plan to use, creating a new interactive dashboard that displays a wide range of data.
