The SNSF provides project funding to enable qualified researchers to conduct research projects on self-chosen topics and with self-chosen goals independently and under their own responsibility. Through project funding, it aims to award researchers a basic grant that is appropriate for the planned research. In particular, researchers can apply for coverage of research costs and staff salaries as well as for the funding of scientific cooperation, networking and communication.

The full list of EPFL-led granted proposals is available on the Grant Search Portal of the SNSF.

Congratulations to all the grantees!

Latest Updates in SNSF Project Funding:

(i) In projects submitted as of the 1 October 2025 deadline, researchers can apply for up to CHF 300,000 for equipment and material of enduring value. The research institution must contribute at least 50% of total costs in excess of CHF 100,000.

(ii) The national negotiations concerning a new Read & Publish agreement with Wiley have not led to a conclusion yet. Since January 1st 2025, the Swiss Higher Education Institutions and this publisher are in a no-deal situation. Until further notice, the SNSF recommends avoiding publishing in journals by Wiley and considering alternatives.

We recommend using the EPFL Application Toolkit to guide you in preparing your proposal.

Next deadline: 1 October 2025 (17:00 Swiss local Time)
