With the prestigious WINS fellowship award, Antonia decided to join SMaL to focus on the additive manufacturing of soft bioinspired and biohybrid functional materials and structures for robotic applications.

Dr. Antonia Georgopoulou received her degree (M.Eng.) in Chemical Engineering with distinction from the University of Patras in 2017. She then received her degree (M.S.) in Biomedical Engineering from ETH Zürich in 2019. In 2022, she received her Ph.D. in Engineering studies at Vrije Universiteit Brussel with the highest distinction working on tissue engineering and biofabrication before joining Empa - Materials Science and Technology in the Department of Advanced Materials and Surfaces working on the topic of sensor development for soft robotics.

Now, she joined SMaL and the bioinspired NCCR to develop electronic skin with selective multi-sensing capabilities inspired by natural sensory neuro-receptors. Her research focuses on high-performance composites for soft sensing and actuation to lead to a new generation of autonomous, intelligent soft robots with multiple sensory modalities.
