Six new BRIDGE Proof of Concept (PoC) projects awarded to EPFL

Recently, six new projects were awarded to EPFL Researchers within the BRIDGE Proof of Concept 10th Call.

BRIDGE is a is a joint programme conducted by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and

Innosuisse - the Swiss Innovation Agency. It offers new funding opportunities at the intersection of

basic research and science-based innovation, thereby supplementing the funding activities of the two organisations.

The BRIDGE Proof of Concept scheme is addressed to young researchers who wish to develop an application or service based on their research results. These projects may target innovations of all kinds from all research areas.

Recently, in the context of the 10th Call (March 2019), 6 EPFL researchers were awarded the PoC grant (out of 9 awarded projects in total) with each of them receiving up to 130,000 Swiss francs in funding to implement their project:

  • Samantha Anderson, EPFL SB, host Prof Berend Smit, Radically Enhanced Room Temperature Degradation of PET
  • Frank Bonnet, EPFL STI, host Prof Auke Ijspeert, Development of automatized tools for a device able to sort miniature biological entities
  • Sébastien Cajot, EPFL STI, host Prof François Maréchal, URBio: interactive optimization for urban planning
  • Fabian Sesterhenn, EPFL STI, host Prof Bruno Correia, Proof-of-concept for a first-in-class trivalent epitope-focused vaccine against Respiratory Syncytial Virus
  • Orly Tarun, EPFL STI, host Prof Sylvie Roke, Nonlinear light scattering for early detection and rapid assessment of protein crystallization and kinetics
  • Dimitrios Terzis, EPFL ENAC, host Prof Lyesse Laloui, MeduSoil: Ground Bio-stabilization

Applicants interested in the BRIDGE PoC scheme can apply 4 times a year. The upcoming submission deadlines are the following:

  • 11th call: 3 June 2019
  • 12th call: 9 September 2019
  • 13th call: 9 December 2019

Deadline always 17:00 Swiss local time

Researchers planning to apply are advised to contact the EPFL Research Office as soon as possible (minimum 2 weeks before the each deadline).
