Four industrial partners and three academic institutions recently became members. They are now 27 in total to be part of the center.
Three new members joined in 2014: TSS Innovations Projekte, The Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) and the Physikalisch-Meteorologisches Observatorium Davos (PMOD/WRC). Four more joined early 2015: Exelen, Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Noveltis and Viasat. In view of these arrivals, the Swiss Space Center counts now 27 members, based all over the country.
New members’ introduction
TSS Innovation Projekte GmbH
TSS Innovations Projekte GmbH is a business and technical-engineering consulting company. For our Staff, work is not solely limited to the consulting activities, but it continues until the final objective is reached, always caring about Customers. ZHAW
The Zurich University of Applied Sciences was founded in September 2007, when the previously independent institutions Zurich University of Applied Sciences Winterthur, University of Applied Sciences Wädenswil, the School of Social Work and the School of Applied Psychology in Zurich merged. The former Zurich University of Applied Sciences Winterthur was itself made up out of schools with long histories: the Technikum Winterthur was founded in 1874 as Switzerland's largest engineering school, and the Höhere Wirtschafts- und Verwaltungsschule was established in 1968. Both schools were the first of their kind in Switzerland. Currently, the university has eight schools, covering architecture and civil engineering, health, linguistics, life sciences and facility management, applied psychology, social work, engineering and management and law.
PMOD/WRC
The "Physikalisch-Meteorologisches Observatorium Davos" was founded in 1907 by Carl Dorno as a privately operated institute. Dorno began operational measurements of the direct solar irradiance in 1909, initiating the world's longest and still continuing time series of this kind. In addition, he began investigating the biological influences of ultra-violet radiation - then known as Dorno Radiation, and today as UV-B. With his world famous solar and UV radiation measurements he set the corner-stone of the PMOD which has continued his work as an internationally recognized center for research in radiation measurements and instrumentation. Since 1926, PMOD has been part of the SFI private foundation ("Schweizerisches Forschungsinstitut für Hochgebirgsklima und Medizin") . In 1971, the PMOD was designated by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO, Geneva) to serve as a World Radiation Center (WRC). The Swiss government offered the WMO to operate the WRC as a contribution to the World Weather Watch Program (WWW).
Exelen
Exelen GmbH is an electronic design and production services company active in the aerospace, space and industrial markets, providing turn-key solutions to its customers. Exelen manages electronic developments from customer requirements to certified prototypes. Providing best-in-class service, flexibility and innovation, we ensure that the developments of complex systems are completed on time and on budget.
Università della Svizzera italiana (USI)
USI is Switzerland’s most international university. It is distinctive in the Swiss university system because of the originality of its degree curricula and areas of research. Its relatively contained size and numbers assure direct interaction between the members of the academic community. The result is a collegiate, dynamic, and multicultural atmosphere, a powerful magnet for motivated students and talented researchers. USI will continue to invest in the existing Faculties - Architecture, Economics, Communication, and Informatics - but it also plans to develop new initiatives designed to stimulate and enhance its unique profile within the Swiss universities system.
Noveltis
NOVELTIS-Switzerland starts covering and developing all the value chain from satellite preparation and exploitation, remote-sensed instrument and processing, operational innovative products, development of environmental applications and services for end-users, based on the 3 following pillars:
- Preparation phases of space missions: Consolidating our positioning on industrial and exploitation phases of operational European space missions preparation.
- Applications and services: Exploiting remote-sensed information (space, airborne and on ground) for operational applications and services.
