The International Conference for Sustainable Design of the Built Environment (SDBE) took place in London on the 20 and 21 December 2017. On this occasion, the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST) was involved into the presentation of several conference papers.

The SBDE conference focuses on sustainable design, building energy performance, sustainable planning of neighborhoods and cities, emphasizing a balanced approach to environmental, socio-economic and technical aspects of sustainability. The topics extend to include innovative approaches for education and training on sustainability of the built environment.

The conference raised awareness concerning research and best practices across the world of integrating sustainability strategies and approaches in the built environment. It constitutes an opportunity for academics, researchers, architects, urban designers, engineers, building consultants, and professionals to meet and share the latest knowledge, research, and innovations on low carbon building design, building performance, simulation tools, and energy efficient building-related technologies.

The conference themes included a range of forums covering sustainable design and operation within the built environment, which aim to improve ultimately the quality of life, health, and well-being whilst mitigating the impact of the built environment on carbon emissions.

The LAST presented several articles based on ongoing research and dealing with the integration of sustainability criteria into the urban and architectural design processes :

Angela Clua Longas, Sophie Lufkin, Emmanuel Rey, "Towards advanced active façades: The development of a new construction system combining passive and active design strategies"

Judith Drouilles, Sophie Lufkin, Emmanuel Rey, "Towards a sustainable renewal of peri-urban neighbourhoods of single-family houses in Switzerland"

Sergi Aguacil Moreno, Sophie Lufkin, Emmanuel Rey, "Influence of energy use scenarios in Life-cycle analysis of renovation projects with Building‐ Integrated Photovoltaics. Two case studies in Neuchâtel (Switzerland)"

Thomas Jusselme, Raphaël Tuor, Denis Lalanne, Emmanuel Rey, Marilyne Andersen, "Visualization techniques for heterogeneous and multidimensional simulated building performance data sets"
