EPFL professor Sascha Feldmann has been awarded the prestigious Klung Wilhelmy Science Award for Chemistry in recognition of his groundbreaking research on interactions between light and matter, particularly in the fields of chirality and next-generation energy materials.
Sascha Feldmann, tenure-track assistant professor at EPFL’s School of Basic Sciences, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Klung Wilhelmy Science Award for Chemistry. The award recognizes his pioneering contributions to understanding chiral light-matter interactions and their potential applications in novel energy materials.
Since joining EPFL in 2024, Feldmann has led the Laboratory for Energy Materials, where his team investigates how light interacts with advanced semiconductor materials. His research aims to develop more energy-efficient technologies for applications ranging from solar cells and displays to quantum information processing.
Before joining EPFL, Feldmann was a research group leader and Rowland Fellow at Harvard University. He holds a PhD in physics from the University of Cambridge and has received several distinctions, including an ERC Starting Grant and the Wiley Advanced Science Young Innovator Award in 2025. He was also named among Forbes’ “30 Under 30” in 2023 and Chemical & Engineering News’ “Talented 12” in 2025.
The award ceremony will take place on 19 November 2026 at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany.
