Sandro Carrara heads editorial board of new IEEE Sensors Magazine

Sandro Carrara, head of the Bio/CMOS Interfaces Lab in the School of Engineering, has been named Founding Editor-in-Chief of the newly launched IEEE Sensors Magazine.
The new IEEE Sensors Magazine publishes industry news and "tutorial-style articles on research and applications, as well as columns on issues of interest in the field of scope of the IEEE Sensors Council, i.e., the theory, design, fabrication, manufacturing and application of devices for sensing and transducing physical, chemical, and biological phenomena, with the emphasis on electronics, physics and reliability aspects of sensors and integrated sensor-actuators." The recently published inaugural issue is now available online.
"One of the main aims of this new magazine is to build on the industrial culture in the area of sensors to create a new space where industry researchers may find a common denominator with academic ones," Carrara says. "Therefore, this new publication has been built to create a special link between academic and industrial experts, with the ultimate aim of stimulating exchanges among them."
Carrara previously led the IEEE Sensors Journal (2018-2024). His research in the Bio/CMOS Lab focuses on integrating innovative nano- and bio- materials into electrochemical-sensing surfaces. Research in the lab involves the design of novel biosensing devices, intimate integration of highly heterogeneous systems, and development of electronics with CMOS technology. The group's novel approach corresponds to a co-design of the different layers (bio, nano, and CMOS frontend) to improve the integration of these highly heterogeneous systems in order to overcome the usual limits of biosensors in term of specificity, sensitivity, and autonomy.
