Safety first!

Our labs have reported a number of incidents and accidents in recent months, including leaks of flammable and toxic gases, fires of varying sizes and burns from cryogenic liquids. An opportunity to remind ourselves that security at EPFL is a constant concern.

Fortunately there have been no serious injuries among our employees – that’s most important. But some experiments have had to be put on hold, and some of the accidents have been very costly.

These events are a reminder that we must never lose our focus on safety at EPFL. We strongly encourage you to review the existing safety guidelines and carefully comply with them. The webpages on health and safety in the workplace contain a number of tips and resources that will help keep you and your colleagues safe.

It would also be a good idea to re-take the online basic safety training course. It discusses the health and safety services available on our campuses and what to do if something happens. (You’ll need the following key to take the course: fobs@epfl.)

If you have any questions or require safety-related support, please let us know (our contact information is at the top of this page).

By working together and making safety a priority, we can create a safe environment for everyone.

Thank you for your efforts to help keep our campuses safe.
