For their traditional annual outing, the SAC and EDOC teams headed to Sion this year to discover the EPFL Valais and its partner HES-SO Valais.

The day began with a warm welcome from Rachel Gay, Deputy Director of EPFL Valais, Wallis, who gave us an overview of the history of the creation of the campus, the various activities carried out in the laboratories and the development projects of EPFL Valais. The team also had the privilege of visiting some of the recently constructed, state-of-the-art buildings.

The team was then welcomed by Sophie Lenoble, Deputy Director of the HES-SO Valais, and Gaëtan Cherix, Director of the School of Engineering, who presented the school, giving them a better understanding of how it works and how it collaborates with EPFL. Doctoral candidate Daniel Biner (EDEY) offered an insightful presentation on the Hydro laboratory’s activities, while Véronique Amstutz, HES research assistant, and doctoral candidate Hugo Fleuriot-Blitman (EDCH) guided the team through the biotechnology room’s innovative projects.

After these enlightening sessions, the group enjoyed a well-deserved break on a magnificent shaded terrace, complemented by an excellent meal. The outing then continued with a cultural highlight - a climb up to the Château de Valère to visit the historic basilica, adding a touch of heritage to the day's experiences.

The outing was a success, thanks to the meticulous organization and warm hospitality extended by the hosts. The engaging presentations and active participation from all attendees made the day rich in knowledge exchange and conviviality.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in making this day both enjoyable and enlightening.
