Sabine Süsstrunk is the Electronic Imaging Scientist of the Year
28.02.13 - Sabine Süsstrunk, IC Professor for Images and Visual Representation, was honored with the 2013 Electronic Imaging Scientist of the Year Award at the IS&T/SPIE 25th Electronic Imaging Symposium. Professor Süsstrunk received this award in recognition of her "seminal contributions to color imaging, computational photography, and image analysis."
Professor Süsstrunk's research focuses on the capture, analysis, and reproduction of color images. Aiming to improve everyone's photographic experience, she develops algorithms and systems that foster understanding, processing, and measuring images. Based on insights of how the human visual system processes information and how physical signals are captured, she and her team have developed innovative solutions in areas such as tone mapping and semantics-based color image rendering, demosaicing, superresolution, salient region detection, and near-infrared based image enhancement and image analysis.
The award was presented by the Chair, Gaurav Sharma, on February 5th, 2013 during the 25th edition of the Electronic Imaging Symposium, one of the world’s largest events in the field of imaging. Every year, the symposium gathers over a thousand researchers from industry and academia around topics like computational and digital photography, augmented and virtual reality, human vision, color imaging and perception, image and video processing, 3D displays, compression and communication, mobile imaging, imaging sensors, image quality, media security and forensics, and computer vision. The Electronic Imaging Symposium is co-sponsored by The Society of Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) and the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE).
