Sabine Chamoun (LCH-EPFL) received JFK Award
During the 37th IAHR Congress in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, 13-18 August, 2017, Sabine Chamoun from the Laboratory of Hydraulic Constructions (LCH-EPFL) received the prestigious John F. Kennedy Student Paper Competition Award for her paper “Venting of turbidity currents: when to act?” ex-aequo with Isabella Schalko from VAW – ETH Zürich. Several 10th proposals have been submitted for the award and finally 10 papers have been selected for presentation during the congress. For Switzerland, it was a great success since 5 out of 10 papers came from the two Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology (3 from LCH-EPFL and 2 from VAW-ETHZ).
The JFK award was established by the IAHR council in 1992 to honour the memory of Professor John F. Kennedy, IAHR president (1979-1983) and Honorary Member (1989-1991). Professor Kennedy made significant and lasting contributions to the Association, and is remembered particularly for his efforts to foster younger-member membership and participation.
