EPFL researcher Riccardo Rossi has been recognized for his groundbreaking work in computational quantum field theory, earning the prestigious Hermann Kümmel Early Achievement Award in Many-Body Physics.

The Hermann Kümmel Early Achievement Award in Many-Body Physics is a highly esteemed recognition in the field of quantum many-body physics, established by the International Advisory Committee of the "Recent Progress in Many-Body Theories" (RPMBT) conference series.

The award, introduced in 2005, honors young physicists who have made significant contributions through their published work in this complex field. It is named after Professor Hermann Kümmel, a pioneering figure in the development of the coupled cluster method, and intends to encourage early-career researchers to continue advancing the understanding of quantum many-body systems.

This year, the Hermann Kümmel Early Achievement Award has been given to Riccardo Rossi, a researcher with EPFL’s Computational Quantum Science Lab.

Rossi is cited for “groundbreaking advances in computational quantum field theory for many-fermion problems, including determinant algorithms for connected-diagram expansions and resummation techniques, leading to key results on the unitary Fermi gas and the Hubbard model”.

The Award will presented at the 22nd International Conference on Recent Progress in Many-Body Theories, which will take place during between 23-27 September 2024, in Tsukuba, Japan.
