Professor Gary Prinz (University of Arkansas) will give an invited seminar at EPFL/RESSLab on Tuesday August 20 2019, 14h00 at GC B3 424.

Dr. Gary Prinz is an associate professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Arkansas. He directs the Steel Structures Research Laboratory (SSRL) which focuses on steel infrastructure challenges related to extreme and repeated loads. Dr. Prinz joined the University of Arkansas from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) and is a registered professional engineer in California and Arkansas. In 2018 Dr. Prinz received the American Institute of Steel Construction Milek Fellowship and a CAREER award from the US National Science Foundation.

His presentation will cover recent and ongoing steel research projects related to: 1) the fatigue behavior of headed shear studs in steel-concrete composite bridge girders, and 2) characterization of fundamental mechanisms driving ductile fracture in additively manufactured steels for better seismic fuse design.
