In this, the third year of our research exchange program, we welcomed students from Georgia Tech, Stanford, Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, MIT, McGill, Waterloo, University of British Columbia, University of Toronto, Cambridge, and the National University of Singapore. These carefully-selected students are among the best in their class at their home universities. Under this program, managed by our Study Programs Promotion Service, the students spend an average of three months at various EPFL laboratories.

The program not only boosts our visibility internationally, but also gives our students an opportunity to gain experience at highly-coveted universities in the English-speaking world. It has enabled us to forge closer ties with UBC, renegotiate spots for our students at University of Waterloo, develop a new program with Georgia Tech that adds research exchange to the conventional exchange program, and continue working with MIT under its International Science and Technology Initiative. These are all partnerships we intend to develop further.

More and more universities are likely to offer these types of research exchanges, since they provide a number of advantages, including first-hand experience for students in state-of-the-art labs and closer links between research and education. We would like to thank the EPFL labs that graciously agreed to host exchange students and helped make this another successful year of the program.
