Relocation of the Beijing Municipal Government

A workshop on the construction of Tongzhou new town (circa 20 km in the outskirt of the capital city of China) was hosted at Tsinghua University between 11 and 14 January 2017. The workshop is the second organized in the framework of the project “Chinese New Towns: negotiating citizenship and physical form” funded by the Politecnico di Torino between 2015-2017. The project investigates Chinese new Towns as an extraordinary exploratory space to understand how some contemporary territories are changing in China. The workshop brought together Polito, EPFL (CdH-IAGS) and Tsinghua School of Architecture research teams. It focused on the relocation of the Beijing Municipal government in Tongzhou for 2017. The output of the workshop will nourish a Unit Design on Architecture and Urban Space (Master level) that will be taught at Polito in collaboration with EPFL Faculty during the Spring semester 2017.
