The QSE Center has distributed funding from the ETH-Domain Quantum-Technology Network (QTNet) to 11 quantum researchers at EPFL for procuring quantum hardware to develop and employ applicatons of quantum technologies.

The QTNet funding was given to EPFL, ETH Zurich, and the Paul Scherrer Institute to be distributed among existing quantum research groups and jump-start newly established groups in the field of quantum science and technology at the ETH Domain. The invesment will support Switzerland-based researchers in effectvely and jointly developing and using applicatons of quantum technologies, which are challenging to achieve individually.

Providing access to the infrastructure will enable students and researchers, as well as start-ups, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and industry in all of Switzerland to expand a strong Swiss role in the development and use of transformational quantum information and sensing technologies.

At EPFL, 11 researchers on 12 projects were funded, with each receiving between CHF 30k to 300k, depending on their specific needs.

The projects and researchers are:

  • Ileana-Cristina Benea-Chelmus, "Read-out and control of superconducting cavity electro electro-optics for Terahertz quantum applications"

  • Jean-Philippe Brantut, "High-precision wavelength-meter for cavity quantum electrodynamics experiments"

  • Lyndon Emsley "Parahydrogen based quantum sensing for enhanced NMR spectroscopy"

  • Christophe Gallande, "Improved NV-based quantum sensing based on IR absorption in diamond nanophotonic cavities"

  • Nicolas Grandjean, "Cryogen-free low vibration cryostat for temperature-dependent studies of bright single photon emitters"

  • Adrian Mihai Ionescu, "DC and RF electronics"

  • Gregor Jotzu, "Ultrafast all-optical control of quantized magnetic flux in superconducting rings - for quantum sensing and computation"

  • Tobias Kippenberg, "Current-in-plane apparatus its operating cost for measuring tunnel junctions including Nb/Al-AlOx/Nb trilayer stacks"

  • Andras Kis, "Supercontinuum laser"

  • Henrik M. Ronnow, "Cavity magnonics with Rare-Earth hyperfine states"

  • Pasquale Scarlino, "High-Precision Assembly Platform for Integrating 1D Nanowires and 2D Layered Materials for Novel Quantum Devices"

  • Pasquale Scarlino, "Dry etcher for superconducting thin films"
