At the 44th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference (PVSC-44) Dr. Stephanie Essig, postdoc in PV-Lab, won the Award for Most Outstanding Technical Contribution and PhD student Jérémie Werner won the Best Student Paper Award in the session for Si-based tandem solar cells.

The 44thIEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference (PVSC-44) was held June 25-30, 2017, in Washington D.C.. At the conference, Prof. Christophe Ballif gave a plenary talk about “Novel designs and materials for durable PV modules: applications on the ground, in cities and in the air”. Furthermore Eleonora Annigoni, Jérémie Werner, Dr. Alessandro Virtuani, Dr. Mathieu Boccard, Dr. Philipp Löper and Dr. Stephanie Essig attended the conference and presented their work to the international audience.

Our PhD student Jérémie Werner won the Best Student Paper Award in the session for Si-based tandem solar cells. In his presentation, “Perovskite/Silicon Tandem Solar Cells: Challenges Towards High-Efficiency in 4-Terminal and Monolithic Devices”, he reported efficiencies of 23.2% for 4-terminal perovskite/silicon dual-junction solar cells with cell areas of 1cm2. Furthermore he presented our recent progress in the field of monolithic perovskite/Si cells reaching efficiencies up to 22.7% (0.25cm2 ) and 18% on large area (13cm2).

Our postdoc Dr.Stephanie Essig won the PVSC-44 Award for Most Outstanding Technical Contribution. In her talk “32% efficient III-V/Si dual-junction solar cells and their challenging path towards cost competivenessshe presented record efficiencies for mechanically stacked 4-terminal III-V/Si multi-junction solar cells that were achieved in collaboration with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Colorado and CSEM in Neuchâtel.
