Protecting and Powering Up Data Centers

Power Electronics Laboratory has entered into a research collaboration with Huawei Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) on a research topic related to advanced medium-voltage solid-state protection technologies. Large-scale data centers require a backup power supply, often realized by means of an uninterruptible power supply with batteries, often located outside the data center facility. These systems must be quickly, safely, and reliably disconnected from the utility grid in case of grid faults, by means of solid-state devices, ensuring power delivery to data centers.
