Last March 11, Prof. Mirko Musa, Head of the Sustainable River Engineering, Energy, and Morphodynamics (STREEM) Lab, gave a virtual science talk as part of the AGU EPSP Connects series.

He presented new, unconventional approaches to sediment management and river engineering. Focusing on how flow–sediment interactions can be strategically influenced, Prof. Musa highlighted experimental findings showing that controlled forcing can guide scour, deposition, and large-scale riverbed changes in more sustainable ways—for example, by using water-based renewable energy technologies. His talk underscored the growing importance of working with, rather than against, natural river dynamics as climate change intensifies pressure on waterways and infrastructure. The talk was recorded and can be viewed here.
